Get in! We’re going to Barbieland!

Barbie the Movie is great fun for everyone - so we wanted to make sure that our KOL friends had the chance to bring their whole families for a day out to paint the town pink! To get our guests in the mood, we created and printed custom ID tags that doubled as our movie screening tickets later in the day.  

We had the chance to stretch our imaginations in a life-sized Barbie Dreamhouse, get crafty with some DIY projects, and take the iconic pink slide for a spin. And we just had to throw in an all-Barbie newspaper: the Barbie Times to keep everyone up-to-date with the latest goings-on in Barbieland. 

The most highly anticipated movie of the year premiered on 18 July 2023 across multiple cinemas in Malaysia. Our friends at Mattel tasked us to invite a small group of KOLs to catch the event
and nab a first look at the new GSC at LaLaport. 

It only made sense that we extend our limited invites to friends of the brand - those who stood with Barbie even before she started to trend. We even got to share some pairs of Barbie x Superga kicks for our guests to strut their stuff in for the event!

Welcome the new addition to the Barbie® family: My First Barbie™! 

The most iconic doll in the universe is now even more inclusive! My First Barbie™ is a line of dolls created to be enjoyed by little hands! She stands a little taller, feels a little softer,
and is a lot easier to dress up! 

We wanted to make the experience of a little one receiving their first doll that much more special,
so we made sure to create a big surprise for our little friends to enjoy! 

At 64 years old, Barbara Millicent Roberts shows no signs of slowing down.
With over 200 careers and counting, Barbie® has been breaking plastic ceilings and paving the way
for little ones to dare to DREAM BIG since her introduction at the American International Toy Fair
in New York on 9 March 1959.

To celebrate the occasion, Barbie® invited us to help her throw a Birthday Bash live show streamed from Toys “R” Us, Pavilion Bukit Bintang. We knew we couldn’t do it without Barbie®’s good friend, Megan Tan, who expertly navigated us through 64 years of Barbie® history!

It was also a real treat to have little Eva and her mum, Melissa Tan, on as our special guests to help highlight the EXTRA and exciting features and to bring the dance to the party! 

“What do you want to be when you grow up?”

We had the incredible opportunity to sit down with Professor Emerita Tan Sri
Dr. Mazlan Othman, Malaysia’s First Astrophysicist, to learn all about what it’s like to be a woman in STEM. In conjunction with International Women’s Day, Barbie® planned a series of sit-down interviews in which young girls were given the opportunity to speak with accomplished women across Southeast Asia in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

We were given the challenge of setting the tone for the project, developing the brief and general template that each participating country would use in the production of their video. This was in addition to overseeing the production of the Malaysian contribution to the project.

When working with kids, it’s important to us to let them lead the way. We do a lot of prep beforehand to ensure we’re creating the right environment for them - one in which they feel safe, heard, and comfortable to be themselves. Little Shaheera couldn’t wait to ask Dr. Mazlan about aliens and outer space and Dr. Mazlan was so generous and giving with her answers.

When we grow up, we wanna be more like her!
